We are looking for a skilled and hardworkingpolicyandadvocacyprofessional to join theCorporate AffairsTeam, reporting to theSenior Director of Corporate Affairs, Europe & Canada and indirectly reporting to the Director of Corporate Affairs, Alexion Canada.You will create and implement strategicpolicy and advocacyprograms and partnershipsaligned todiseaseareasand enterpriseobjectives

The Senior Manager,Policy & Advocacywill collaborate withdifferent functionswithin Alexion to ensure our engagements arestrategicand focused on enhancing patientaccess to potentially life-changing therapies, as well asawareness and education. Key internal partners include Medical Affairs,Government Affairs and Market Access,Clinical Operations, Marketing, Corporate Communications, Regulatory, Legal, and Compliance. By connecting the external and internal environments, you will activelyhelppositionAlexion as a leading patient-centered rare disease biotechnology company and dynamic thought leaderas we progress pharmaceutical policy in Canada. 

What you'll do

  • Create strong external relationships and partnerships with relevant stakeholders such as policymakers/decision-makers, patient advocacy groups,key opinion leaders,clinicalexpertsand professional societies.

  • Build and implement targeted engagement plans within keydiseaseareas aligning partnership and policy changes with key businessobjectives.

  • Develop compelling policy argumentations and engagement materials.

  • Lead and contribute to multi-stakeholder partnerships with the aimto deliveroutputs relevant to progressing policy discussions as well as working closely with Global counterparts to support policyevidencegeneration and pull-through of global materials.

  • Collaborate with internal colleagues to fosteroptimalpartnerships and highlight relationships with key influencers to achieve business priorities.

  • Monitor, analyze, provide insight, and make strategic recommendations on engagement priorities to allappropriate internalcolleagues. 

  • Actascounsel to the Director and otherAlexion Canadasenior leadersondiseaseareaand health systempolicy issues. 

  • Collaborate and pitch-in on various department projects as the need arises.

Essential for the role

  • Bachelors degree

  • Minimum5+ years in policy development,patient advocacy,government affairs, corporateaffairsor related fields in regulated, complex, or multinational environments.

  • Deep knowledge of theCanadian healthcare system and rare disease ecosystem, patient advocacycommunityandlife sciences stakeholdergroups in Canada,understanding ofthe interrelationship between patient advocacy organizations, pharmaceutical companies, healthcare practitioners, and governments/payers.

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new policy areas and regulatory environments, synthesize information, and generate actionable insights.

  • Proventrack recordof collaborating and mobilizing different people and organizations.

  • Strong interpersonal skills for working across functionsand a variety of stakeholders. Superior written and verbal communication, with experience preparing policy materialsandexecutive-level updates.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills for tracking deliverables and meeting deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to travel across Canada (~20%).

Desirable for the role

  • Previousexperience in raredisease

  • Experience in biopharmaceuticals, health systems, or lifesciences

Annual base salary for this position ranges from 125,822.40 to 165,141.90.

Our compensation policies and practices have been designed to allow colleagues to progress through the salary range over time as they progress in their role. The range provided in this posting represents an offer pay range used in a majority of situations. The base pay offered will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including the candidate's skills and experience, job-related knowledge, and other specific business and organizational needs.  In some cases, offers outside the range may also be considered to address unique circumstances.

In addition, our permanent positions offer an annual Variable Pay Bonus/Short Term Incentive opportunity as well as eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (if applicable to role).  Benefits offered for permanent roles include a competitive Flex Benefits & Retirement Savings Program, 4 weeks’ paid vacation, and annual Personal Days. Fixed Term Contract/Temporary positions (excluding students) are offered a Contract Benefits Program.
