Senior Manager, Communications

Are you ready to make a meaningful impact through strategic communications? As the Senior Manager, Communications, you'll be at the forefront of developing and executing strategies that engage both employees and external audiences. Partner with teams and leaders to deliver clear, compelling communications around key announcements and changes. You'll manage resources, oversee review processes for corporate content, and analyze communications metrics to drive success. Reporting to the Senior Director, Corporate and Internal Communications, you'll be a vital member of the Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease Global Corporate Affairs team, collaborating across AstraZeneca to ensure aligned and impactful communications.

Accountabilities:

  • Serve as a strategic communications business partner to Alexion teams and sites, supporting change management, internal announcements, and employee engagement initiatives.

  • Lead and collaborate with team members to produce and post content across various internal communications channels, including events, intranet, internal social media, PowerPoint decks, videos, images, etc.

  • Build, update, and manage evolving communications asset libraries including comms toolkits and best practices; video and image assets.

  • Manage comms calendars and drive engagement with a communications champions network.

  • Collaborate with EUCAN and International Corporate Affairs teams to align strategy, exchange best practices, and support successful implementation of integrated communications strategies across global, regional, and market efforts, launches, and campaigns.

  • Manage content review for external corporate content, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Take ownership of key “above-brand” projects or communications initiatives, such as company-wide employee engagement campaigns or change management programs aligned to broader AZ priorities.

  • Lead the development and delivery of content for flagship internal events, including executive town halls, global recognition programs, or strategy rollouts.

  • Represent the Rare Disease business in cross-functional working groups, building partnerships to advance communications impact.

  • Collaborate on the creation and implementation of the annual communications strategy and work plan, regularly monitoring performance and progress against objectives.

  • Proactively measure the impact and effectiveness of key channels and campaigns, recommending strategic improvements to maximize engagement.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • 5-7+ years working in communications, with in-house life sciences experience preferred.

  • Proven ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder projects, including above-brand or cross-functional initiatives.

  • Experience developing and executing annual communications plans or business strategies, monitoring progress against objectives.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with experience producing content for diverse audiences and formats, including live events and external forums.

  • Strong proficiency in digital communications, with a deep understanding of current trends, platforms, and digital engagement strategies.

  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving environment while navigating ambiguity and/or frequent changes in scope or direction of projects.

  • Experience leading projects and partners (agency teams, cross-functional partners, etc).

  • Proven experience working directly with executives and other leaders.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills with keen attention to detail.

  • Experience producing content across a variety of internal and external communications mediums such as speeches, talking points, memos, presentations, videos, social posts, and more.

  • BA/BS or similar educational attainment.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Direct experience in communications in pharmaceutical industry setting.

  • Experience using Veeva for content review.

  • Understanding of the rare disease sector.

  • Experience working on heavily matrixed teams/projects.
