Introduction to Role:

Are you ready to make a significant impact on the speed, quality, and cost of our development portfolio? We are seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to join our Chemical Development department as an Associate Director of Biocatalysis and New Synthetic Technologies. This is a new opportunity where you will lead a team of up to 10 scientists who play a pivotal role in advancing and deploying science, supporting drug substance Route design and Process design.

Accountabilities:

As an Associate Director, you will collaborate with scientific leaders to set the strategy and ensure optimal delivery of science within the areas of biocatalysis and new synthetic technologies. We will require you to mentor and develop your direct reports and extended team members to improve their individual and team performance. Building strong, collaborative relationships with R&D groups, specialist areas of automation, computational, digital and predictive chemistry will be a key part of your role. You will also enhance the reputation of the group by publication in external and internal environments and ensure delivery of SHE compliance, in line with AstraZeneca and external regulatory policies and standards.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Solid understanding of the fundamental science of biocatalysis and new synthetic methodologies (such as photo-, electro- and mechanochemistry) and their application in industrial processes.

  • Experience or capability to lead and manage a team of scientists.

  • A chemistry PhD or graduate with equivalent experience, with a proven track record in the industry. You'll be able to demonstrate a keen business sense, understanding of route and process design processes.

  • Strong communication skills and influencing skills are required as operational relationships with customers, including experience with CDMOs or CROs.

  • Detailed comprehension of principles, applications, and management of SHE.

Desirable Requirements:
