Currently we are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic peptide chemist, who will be part of a chemistry team developing the next generation of peptide medicines.
As a peptide chemist, you will be responsible for the design and chemical synthesis of therapeutic peptides and reagents. We are looking for someone who has a good understanding and background in solid-phase synthesis to support delivery of our peptide portfolio. In this laboratory-based position, you will be responsible for multi-step synthesis, purification and analytical characterisation of complex peptides. You will work independently within research teams and also with internal or external stakeholders. This role requires a strong background in peptide chemistry, excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Accountabilities:
Independently plan and execute complex experimental work
Design and synthesize peptides using solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) techniques, using both automated peptide synthesisers and manual procedures
Troubleshoot and resolve synthetic and analytical challenges
Cleavage of peptides from resin supports, purification by preparative HPLC and analysis using mass spectrometry techniques
Contribute to multi-disciplinary research and drug development
Communicate results to global project teams and stakeholders
Maintain accurate and detailed experimental records and results
Stay current with advancements in peptide chemistry and related fields
Essential Skills/Experience:
Postgraduate qualification (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Biochemistry or relevant subject area
Deep understanding of chemistry and peptide chemistry
Technical proficiency in solid-phase and/or peptide synthesis via manual syntheses or automated peptide synthesisers
Familiarity and working knowledge of HPLC purification and mass spectrometry
Excellent record-keeping and strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience of working within a team environment and developing good working relationships with individuals across organisational boundaries
Desirable Skills/Experience:
PhD (or Master’s degree with equivalent lab-based experience)
Skills in rational/ computational design of peptides
Previous experience within the pharmaceutical industry
Experience of working with peptide conjugates or bioconjugation techniques
