Accountabilities:
We are looking for an Associate Director of Tissue Diagnostics to develop industry-leading diagnostic tests enabling AstraZeneca’s Oncology drug development. The successful candidate will leverage internal R&D and CAP/CLIA lab capabilities to develop highly innovative diagnostic platforms based on multiplex immunohistochemistry and proteomics. This requires wide collaboration with our internal lab-based teams, cross-functionally within AstraZeneca as well as with external academic or industry collaborators. You will be a credible scientific and technical leader, driving future innovation and helping AZ reach our 2030 bold ambition to eliminate cancer as a cause of death.
As a senior member of the Precision Medicine and Biosamples team, you will ensure that all activities are delivered demonstrating behaviours and values aligned to the AstraZeneca code of conduct and supporting policies, standards, and procedures - including compliant management of budget, safety, health, and environment.
Essential Skills/Experience:
Masters/PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant area
Hands-on experience developing tissue-based diagnostic assays (e.g. immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization) in a regulated environment (e.g. under In Vitro Diagnostics development standards or within a CAP/CLIA laboratory)
Evidence of driving laboratory-based innovation
Ability to lead complex scientific projects and collaborate across teams in a matrix environment and with external partners
Ability to communicate clearly and influence stakeholders while keeping balanced and objective views
Desirable Skills/Experience:
Expertise with one, or more, multiplex protein technologies (for example, but not limited to, multiplex immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, spatial omics, proteomics)
Experience with digital pathology and digital image analysis
Understanding of drug clinical trial and companion diagnostics co-development
Understanding of diagnostic development and clinical testing standards and regulations such as Good Clinical Practice, CAP/CLIA, relevant FDA and EMA guidelines.
Experience interacting with In Vitro Diagnostics regulatory authorities.
Experience as a team leader or line manager
