Thought Leader Liaison, US Hematology and Nephrology, Chicago
Introduction to role
Are you ready to make a significant impact in the field of rare diseases? As a Thought Leader Liaison (TLL) within our US commercial organization, you will engage with key opinion leaders (KOLs), develop promotional speaker programs, and support patient engagement initiatives. Reporting to the Director TLL, this senior field-based role is an extension of our marketing team, focusing on building meaningful relationships and driving our commercial strategy forward.
Accountabilities
Thought Leader Development
- Develop and maintain KOL Engagement Plans for thought leaders
- Plan and complete National and Regional Congress Engagement Plans with a focus on meaningful engagements with senior leadership and in support of marketing initiatives
- Support commercial KOL influence mapping initiatives by developing profiles
- Monitor KOL insights about current and future treatment patterns that may impact the commercial strategy and provide feedback for consideration
- Act as liaison between KOLs and Alexion for on-label activities, including office-based cross-functional colleagues and teams
- Assist in the facilitation and execution of commercial advisory boards through identification of key advisors equipped to provide compelling insights
- Align with field partners such as Medical Science Liaisons on complementary initiatives with shared customers
Promotional Physician Speaker Bureau Management & Engagement
- Work with Marketing and Sales Management to identify and recruit KOLs for national and regional faculty and speaker bureaus
- Train physician speakers on approved promotional slide decks
- Develop physician speakers to provide high-quality promotional education
- Ensure appropriate and compliant execution of speaker programs
- Monitor speaker performance at live programs
- Work with marketing and contracted speakers to gain and synthesize feedback in support of the evolution of promotional programming content, case studies for potential publications, and other commercial projects
- Provide field-based training on speaker programs when needed (focus on community-based promotional speakers not covered by MSLs)
Promotional Patient Speaker Programs
- Create and execute local promotional patient engagement plans and programs
Compliant Collaboration with Regional Field Team
- Provide input and support in developing account plans
- Provide field-based training when needed
- Address customer service issues/identified needs and coordinate cross-functional action plans to address on-label issues as needed
Brand Strategy
- Work with cross-functional teams to provide key customer insights and input on strategy, tactics, messaging, and program execution
Compliance & Integrity
- Work with the highest degree of professionalism and in accordance with the company’s code of Ethics and Business Conduct
Essential Skills/Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
- 7+ years’ work experience in academia, medical or bio/pharma
- Experience in a combination of one or more of the following areas: product marketing, field sales, clinical, nurse practitioner or thought leader engagement
- Working knowledge of Thought Leader engagement practices.
- Clinical, technical, and scientific knowledge and proficiency in complex disease states
- Demonstrated ability to complete strategic and tactical plans under short timelines
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and organizational abilities
- Dedicated with strong organizing and planning skills
- Highly collaborative with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Proven ability to manage large geographical territory!
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Travel requirements: Willing to travel >50% of the time including considerable overnight and weekend travel

Desirable Skills/Experience
- Graduate degree (MSc, MSN, MBA)
- Prior experience and/or relationships within the Hematology and Nephrology area
- Prior experience in Marketing or thought leader engagement strongly preferred
The annual base pay for this position ranges from $155,824.80 to $233,737.20. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
