Introduction to role

Asia Area is an exciting region that spans over India, ASEAN, Taiwan, and South Korea. There are nine AstraZeneca markets, and several frontier markets served by appointed local distributors. As Commercial Director, you will drive the development, execution, and monitoring of sales and marketing implementation in these markets. You will provide strategic guidance and track the performance and delivery of commercial initiatives focusing on growth platforms and selected core brands across the markets. Consistent with the Asia Area's ambitions and priorities, you will support our Asia Area Vice President (AVP) in determining strategic initiatives and allocating budgets to the markets. As a member of the Asia Area Leadership Team (AALT), you will work closely with our Country Presidents, Enabling Function Leads, and market Business Unit Leads to achieve our scorecard priorities.

Accountabilities

  • Support to set strategic direction and principles (e.g., business strategy, initiatives prioritization) using regional and global input

  • Ensure the Area's long-term strategic requirements are met

  • Drive the performance of growth platform brands and select core brands

  • Work with our International and Area Regulatory and Commercial teams to accelerate the launch of new products and indications

  • Deliver Business Development proposals working with global BBU team and regional Business Development (BD) team and ensure cascade to markets

  • Deliver Scorecard development and assessment process for Asia Area

  • Deliver key commercial-related projects representing Asia Area including (not limited to) commercial excellence, launch excellence

  • Handle conflict resolution between brands and countries

  • Develop reporting system, monitor commercial performance, and identify issues across the Area

  • Define and own action plan to address commercial implementation challenges

  • Aggregate and share best practices from inside and outside the Area

  • Support AVP in managing communication needs from above market perspective

  • Ensure IT innovation and its portfolio development are aligned with Area business strategy and priorities

  • Lead AALT meeting agenda and follow up on agreed deliverables

  • Participate and provide input to Country Leadership Team during business review meeting with AVP

  • Coach and/or mentor Commercial talents in Asia Area

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Bachelor degree

  • Post-graduate degree and/or MBA (desirable)

  • Minimum 15 years in Marketing/Commercial roles in pharmaceutical industry

  • Strong Commercial background

  • Exercise high levels of influence

  • Good Communication capabilities

  • Ability to set and focus on priorities with a strategic mind set

Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Robust leadership experience, with extensive line and/or project management experience

  • Enterprise mindset, developed through blend of in-market and above-market experience
