Rare Disease Key Account Manager

AstraZeneca is accelerating the expansion of our geographical footprint in rare diseases following the acquisition of Alexion in 2021. Rare diseases is a high-growth therapy area with rapid innovation and significant unmet medical need. Over 7,000 rare diseases are known today – yet less than 1% of them have an approved treatment.
As we expand our position as a leader in Rare Diseases, we are seeking a Key Account Manager (KAM) to join our Commercial Team within the Rare Diseases Business Unit. This full-time role involves providing market insights, engaging with stakeholders, and planning and executing account-specific marketing and sales strategies tailored for the rare disease market. The KAM will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to adapt AstraZeneca's brand strategy to local needs.
Typical Accountabilities
- Develop and Implement Strategies: Formulate local strategies and sales plans for the Rare Disease portfolio by identifying opportunities and actions in alignment with AstraZeneca's brand strategy and tactics.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Understand stakeholder profiles, funding structures, and alternative funding sources, and establish strong relationships with Key External Experts (KEEs) to achieve performance goals and competitive advantage.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work effectively in a matrix environment, collaborating with cross-functional and virtual teams to ensure the successful implementation of brand plans and provide timely feedback on market dynamics.
- Market Insight and Trend Analysis: Maintain a robust understanding of the Rare Disease landscape, including public healthcare funding, the blue-book listing process, and policy implications, to support strategic engagement and market access initiatives.
- Sales and Performance Management: Drive sales performance to meet or exceed targets, manage territory budgets, and ensure access initiatives are executed at the account level.
- Policy Contribution: Contribute to shaping policy aligned with AstraZeneca's brand strategy and lead market shaping for new product launches.
- Compliance and Ethical Standards: Adhere to all regulatory guidelines regarding interactions with healthcare professionals and distribution of materials.
- Reporting and Continuous Development: Provide insightful reports on market conditions and demographic changes within the sales territory, and continuously enhance skills related to software tools like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Other Duties: Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the Line Manager within the position’s scope.
Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential
- Proven pharmaceutical commercial experience in Rare Disease (must have)
- Understand the funding structure in government especially for high cost drug, familiar with KPK and alternative funding (must have)
- You should have minimum university Bachelor's degree and above
- You have experience and enjoy working in cross-functional, often virtual and matrix teams.
- Ability to challenge, influence, contract and drive change
