About the Opportunity:
The Director, Therapeutic Area (TA) Lead for Portfolio Delivery and Feasibility provides strategic guidance to global teams on the feasibility of operational study designs, from initial concepts through protocol design. This role ensures effective risk management of key Site Management and Monitoring (SMM) milestones across Haemtatology SMM countries. The TA Lead collaborates with Haemtatology SMM global leadership and Country Heads to deliver actionable feasibility insights, enabling optimal study design and strategic country/site allocation. As a member of the Global Haemtatology SMM Portfolio Delivery Team, the TA Lead ensures SMM insights integrate into the global TA strategy and supports portfolio delivery across geographies.
What You'll Do:
Strategic Feasibility
Develop and implement global SMM TA feasibility strategies.
Lead the assessment of external input and local intelligence to provide actionable insights for study feasibility.
Ensure robust global SMM insights for strategic landscape analysis, study design, and protocol/site feasibility.
Utilize market insights and data strategy to define optimal countries and sites, securing SMM leadership endorsement.
Optimize feasibility processes, data sources, and technology partnerships.
Drive standardization in feasibility, site selection, and operational projections.
Align country-level feasibility practices through connection with Local Feasibility Leads.
Portfolio Oversight and Delivery
Oversee SMM end-to-end portfolio assessments and risk management in TA.
Maintain awareness of portfolio management trends and translate these into SMM strategies.
Develop global SMM operational strategies with risk assessments for leadership decision-making.
Drive TA-specific SMM portfolio meetings and discussions.
Conduct risk assessments to ensure performance on critical milestones.
Provide visibility on SMM portfolio capacity to influence strategic decisions.
Additional Responsibilities
Represent SMM in global optimization initiatives.
Embrace new analytical tools and AI for enhanced feasibility and portfolio oversight.
Lead and guide Associate Directors and Analysts in the Feasibility and Portfolio team.
Champion best practices and standardization across SMM Haemtatology.
Maintain awareness of industry trends and technology to improve clinical recruitment efforts.
Exhibit high cultural sensitivity, interactive communication, negotiation, and collaboration.
Essential Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in scientific discipline, preferably medical or biological sciences.
Over 10 years of experience in clinical development and study operations within the pharmaceutical industry.
Strategic thinking and project/portfolio management experience.
Global experience in clinical/drug development processes.
Strong understanding of digital solutions and technology.
Proven leadership and empowerment capabilities.
Cultural sensitivity and excellent problem-solving skills.
Experience in efficient clinical trial delivery, focusing on speed, quality, and cost.
Strong stakeholder management and change management skills.
Integrity, high ethical standards, and excellent communication skills.
Desirable for the role:
Haemtatology experience in feasibility settings.
Advanced qualification in clinical development and multi-disciplinary experience.
Influential communication skills for strategic outcomes.
Extensive knowledge of technical and regulatory expectations.
Familiarity with AstraZeneca policies and guidelines.
