We are seeking a skilled and dedicated chemist to join an outstanding team working to discover and develop the next generation of small molecule therapeutics, making a life-changing difference to patients.
Accountabilities:
In this role, you will engage in early-stage drug discovery projects with a focus on the hit identification and lead generation phases. We are looking for someone who can implement innovative design strategies and solve complex chemistry problems to evolve hits into high-quality lead compounds. This laboratory-based position requires you to work independently within a research team to design, synthesise and characterise novel molecules while also encouraging close collaboration with other disciplines and engaging with global chemistry teams across all therapeutic areas.
Essential Skills/Experience:
A Ph.D. in a relevant chemistry-related discipline or a degree with experience in a synthetic chemistry role.
Expert knowledge of contemporary synthetic organic chemistry and ability to deliver innovative solutions to projects.
Excellent skills in practical synthetic organic chemistry.
Passion for organic synthesis, demonstrated expertise in multi-step synthesis, new synthetic routes design and optimisation.
Excellent record-keeping, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate across interfaces of scientific disciplines.
Excellent team-working skills and ability to deliver to agreed timelines.
Maintains the highest standards of safety practices and compliance.
Keen curiosity about the drug discovery process and medicinal chemistry.
Ability to improve reputation through peer-reviewed publications and oral/ poster presentations.
Desirable Skills/Experience:
Several years synthetic experience in a pharmaceutical or biotech environment.
Experience of synthetic technologies such as high efficiency experimentation, flow chemistry, and biocatalysis.
Experience of working with and closely managing CRO resource.
Competence in structure-based and ligand-based design.
Appreciation of broader medicinal chemistry concepts and strategy.
