Royalties Senior Business Analyst in Controlling - GFS Post Deal Management

Location: Warsaw

Hybrid Model: minimum 3 days from the office in Warsaw per week

Global Finance Services (GFS) are the engine of finance, enabling AZ to serve patients in the best possible way. The group is responsible for the delivery of back and middle office finance services across AstraZeneca and has the vision of being ONE connected team, with ONE innovative plan and transforming our operation to work in ONE agile way.

The GFS Commercial Controlling Organization is responsible for guarantee a Healthy Control environment across Europe, Middle East of Africa and Eurasia, through an efficient Month End Close process management, strong SOX and FCF controls framework, Balance Sheet Governance and accurate financial statutory reporting (P&L and Balance Sheet). GFS Post Deal Management team plays a pivotal role in overseeing and optimizing the non-standard accounting activities, with a particular focus on supporting inbound deal activities developing AZ's R&D pipeline.

Role Summary:

This role is responsible for managing and calculating royalty accruals for AZ’s deals portfolio and ensure compliance with contractual agreements and financial regulations, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and provide accurate financial information related to royalties.

Core Deliverables:

  • Manage the royalty master data within the ERP system, partnering with the business to ensure complete and valid data is maintained in order to calculate and record accurate royalty accruals based on contractual terms, sales data, and revenue recognition guidelines.
  • Coordinate the on-boarding of new royalties by reviewing and interpreting royalty agreements, license agreements, and contracts to ensure accurate application of royalty rates, relevant territories etc. Collaborate with legal and finance teams to resolve any discrepancies or issues
  • Maintain and update the royalty management system to accurately track and record royalty accruals and adjustments. Collaborate with IT to implement system enhancements or resolve technical issues.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on royalty accruals, actual payments, and variances. Provide clear and concise financial analysis to stakeholders, management, and internal auditors.

  • Identify opportunities to streamline royalty accrual processes, enhance data accuracy, and improve efficiency. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements and automation.
  • Operate financial controls and manage SOX audit procedures as required.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Qualified finance professional with a degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent qualification such as CIMA or ACCA.
  • At least 5 years of R2R/GL/Controlling experience in a global organization.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex royalty-related issues.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience within the pharmaceutical industry or similar innovations-driven sectors.
  • Familiarity with contractual agreements, licensing, and intellectual property rights.
