As the Associate Director of Scientific Communications at Alexion, US Medical, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the operational excellence of our publication plans and congress abstracts across all therapeutic areas. Accountabilities

  • Partnering with Medical Directors in the development and implementation of strategic publication plans for all therapeutic areas.

  • Managing and tracking publication tactics to ensure timely execution, producing high-quality, accurate, and impactful deliverables including abstracts, posters, oral presentations, and manuscripts.

  • Responsible for submission of congress abstracts for U.S congresses, involving both first-time submissions and encore presentations.

  • Ensuring US field medical’s utilization of plain language summaries, digital formats for posters/presentations, repositories, etc., while staying updated on trends in these areas.

  • Establishing strong collaborative relationships with US Medical TA Leadership, including Medical Directors and HEOR, and working closely with the US Medical Communications Leads, Global Scientific Communications team, and external experts and authors.

  • Working with TA Leadership to track budgets and participate in annual budget and forecast planning.

  • Oversight of and subject matter expertise on internal tools and/or systems utilized for publications submission, review, and approval.

  • Developing, tracking, analyzing, and reporting on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

  • Managing vendor personnel, including medical communications agencies and medical writing consultants.

  • Ensuring compliance with Alexion’s Publication policies, standards, and guidelines.

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline with 5-7 years of relevant work experience in a pharmaceutical company or Medical Communications agency.

  • Experience in publication planning and management tools.

  • Proven operations and facilitation skills.

  • Experience in implementing compliance and guidelines around publications practices.

  • Strong problem-solving capabilities.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Experience in collaborating closely with Key External Experts and authors, with an ability to manage external vendors.

  • Must possess strong scientific writing skills, with a keen attention to detail and the ability to critically interpret and contextualize clinical data for effective communication to physicians, patients, and payers.

  • Demonstrated experience managing competing priorities and tight deadlines.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (including PowerBI and Excel) and other software and apps such as SmartSheet and Workday.

  • Experience working with document management systems (e.g., iEnvision Datavision, SharePoint, Veeva, etc.)

  • The duties of this role are generally conducted in an office environment. As is typical of an office-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to: use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; engage in problem solving and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours.
