Location: Monksland, Athlone

Permanent Night Shifts: 37.5 hours per week, 22:45-07:00 Sunday to Friday

Introduction to role:

The Process Maintenance Technician (Night Shift) plays a key role in keeping the Athlone Fill Finish facility running safely and reliably. This position covers maintenance, repair, troubleshooting and replacement of all production equipment, as well as supporting the co-ordination and scheduling of maintenance activities carried out by service vendors in the Fill Finish environment. The role represents Alexion Pharmaceutical interests, objectives and policies in a professional and responsible manner, helping to ensure that critical medicines reach patients who depend on them.

Accountabilities:

Take ownership for Environmental, Health and Safety responsibilities, ensuring all work is carried out in line with EHS regulations and procedures.

Support new equipment installations and product introductions, helping to bring new capabilities online efficiently.

Maintain the Maintenance Quality System by following all relevant SOPs, policies and cGMP requirements.

Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks in accordance with site policies and procedures, keeping equipment in optimal condition.

Respond to equipment breakdowns promptly, diagnosing issues and restoring operation to minimise downtime.

Manage spare parts, change parts and equipment within Manufacturing Areas and Engineering Stores, ensuring availability when needed.

Ensure the Maintenance Management System is accurately maintained, with clear records of work performed.

Use and maintain IT systems such as Computerised Calibration Systems and Computerised Maintenance Management Systems to plan, track and document activities.

Assist in writing and revising Maintenance Standard Operating Procedures, contributing practical insight from day-to-day operations.

File and archive Maintenance documentation to maintain robust compliance and traceability.

Provide technical support to Operations, Validation, Engineering and Quality teams, collaborating to resolve issues and improve processes.

Support the training and development of new or junior Maintenance Technicians, sharing knowledge and best practices.

Provide on-call support during operations, projects and shutdown activities as required, stepping in when challenges arise.

Carry out other duties as the need arises to support reliable, compliant manufacturing operations.

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Prior hands-on experience with CMMS and Computerised Calibration Systems.
  • Prior experience with Quality Management Systems.
  • Good interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be knowledgeable of the regulatory and GMP requirements for process equipment, instrumentation and calibration.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma and lean systems is an advantage.
  • Ability to make informed and timely decisions that take into account the facts, goals, constraints, and risks associated.
  • Associated Degree and/or technical certification in a mechanical, electrical or related field.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Experience in a Fill Finish or sterile pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
  • Background in maintaining automated process equipment, including instrumentation and control systems.
  • Familiarity with root cause analysis tools and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Proven experience working on night shifts or in 24/7 manufacturing operations.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with external service vendors and contractors.
