Summary of the group:
The Materials Management team is responsible for the sourcing, planning, procurement, and distribution of GMP raw materials required for the production of Clinical trial material. The team is composed of Buyers, Planners, and Inventory Control Specialists. Some of the key responsibilities of the team are material master data creation and maintenance, crafting master specs, shipping drug substance, cost analysis, cost reduction, trouble-shooting supply issues, new material introduction, initiating and managing the supplier qualification process, and vendor evaluation and set up.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for the tactical management of product supply chains. This includes major issue management, identifying major supply chain design opportunities, accommodating major changes in supply capability and being the local link on Global supply.
Responsible for Clinical development production sourcing at the Gaithersburg facility
Oversees implementation of category plan to ensure that the underpinning process improvement and procurement activities deliver the expected business value in accordance with the strategic plans
Supports the Global/Regional Category Lead in strategic relationship management (customer and supplier) - to ensure that Category Strategies are highly aligned to current and future Business need and that the supply base is capable of supporting these strategies.
Advises on and drives procurement strategies to make decisions necessary to purchase products and services in congruence with organizational objectives
Drives the preparation of competitive bids, quotations and proposals with pertinent specifications, terms and conditions
Coordinates the introduction of new and modified materials with appropriate departments
Analyses and resolves issues raised in procurement audit reports
Negotiates contracts and agreements for the supply of complex products and services with new and existing suppliers
Develops, evaluates or manages internal and external relationships with suppliers, Category Teams and other cross-functional teams and stakeholders
Can Lead a Procurement team or cross functional team, establishing and communicating strategic direction, providing business context, coaching and direction to enable the team to meet its performance
Works cross functionally to resolve raw material issues.
Supports change initiatives by gathering relevant information that can be used to identify opportunities for improving the effectiveness of supply chains, and helping to implement changes.
Works proactively to optimize supply chain operations through creative solutions, acting alone and/or on teams.
Authors complex Change Controls, Non-conformances, SOPs, and master specifications.
Education & Experience Requirements:
BA/BS (preferably a degree in Supply Chain Management, Materials Management, Operations Management, Industrial engineering, Biology, Biotechnology, or other Scientific discipline)
At least 7-8 years direct Procurement experience
Experience negotiating complex contracts
Oral and written fluency in Business English
Ability to demonstrate a range of influencing techniques
Proven ability to manage change
Strong organizational, analytical, and financial skills
SAP, Excel, and Windows Proficiency
Experience with lean-six sigma and other operational excellence methodologies
