About the Opportunity

Statistical methods for performing population adjustment, using aggregate level data from some information sources, are of fundamental importance across a wide range of activities at AstraZeneca. This type of adjustment is especially important when two interventions have not been compared directly in the same trial. An indirect comparison, using network meta-analysis methodologies, is then needed. These methods include multilevel network meta-regression, matching-adjusted indirect comparisons and simulated treatment comparisons. This project will focus on the common situation where individual level patient data are available for some, but not all, trials and a population adjusted indirect comparison is required.

The postdoc will join our collaborative and supportive SIRE (Statistical Innovation – Reimbursement Evidence) group, supervised by Dan Jackson. The academic mentor for this project is Sylwia Bujkiewicz (University of Leicester). They will also have close interactions with scientists of various backgrounds, including data scientists, clinicians, epidemiologists and health economists.

The project will begin with a critical evaluation of existing approaches. Subsequent methodological work will focus on effective sample sizes after performing population adjustment, and the development of new statistical methods. The postdoc will also undertake applied work, so that the project will provide a mixture of methodological and applied statistical experiences. The postdoc will be responsible for writing scientific papers, presenting talks and supporting the development of statistical methodology at AstraZeneca.
