Introduction to role:
Reporting to the Head of Oncology, AZ Canada, this position is a key leader in the Oncology Business Unit, accountable for leading the commercialization of our Lung portfolio. You are accountable for driving performance and achieving franchise-wide financial targets, including appropriate resourceplanning and managing the Brand P&L. You are a confident leader who will mentor, inspire, and develop the Commercial team to innovate and compete effectively in-market. You will lead a team of Marketing, Sales,and otherprofessionals, but you are also responsible for leading and fostering cross-functional collaboration across the therapeutic area, within the Oncology Business Unit and broader AZ Canada enterprise team. You are a role model for collaborating internally and externally to find novel approaches to create and demonstrate value and improve the cancer patient experience.
Accountabilities:
Brand Commercialization:
Lead commercial activities, inclusive of uncovering new insights for marketing strategy/execution and field team promotion for the expanding lung portfolio that meet brand objectives and improve the patient experience
Ensure local market launch readiness for new products and indications, including focusing the organization on launch execution and delivery, with a drive and passion for winning, in coordination with the Medical, Diagnostic and Access teams
Champion for the evolution of omni-channel and digital strategies and execution in collaboration with cross-functional partners (Business Excellence, IT, etc.)
Tumour Area and Brand Strategy:
Lead and deliver brand and franchise strategies delivering industry best plans that are based on robust insights and innovative approaches
Assess a range of variables including market trends and opportunities, competition, and research progress to craft compelling near-and long-term commercial strategies
Adapt and deliver in an ecosystem where the rapid pace of science, data readouts, and regulatory approvals is commonplace and sophisticated healthcare delivery and evolving drug and diagnostic testing payment models exist
Business Performance:
Lead the business performance of our lung portfolio as per Phased Budget targets
Manage the P&L for the brand’s contribution based on the indications within your franchise and ensure key financial and brand metrics are met
Seek local insights to advise the indication/brand forecasts as part of the annual and mid-term planning cycles and adjusting the latest view
Capabilities & People:
Lead a team of Sales and Marketing leaders and other commercial team members focusing on performance and personal development that is aligned to innovative commercialization, including the capabilities needed to support the evolution in our go-to-market strategy
Mentor key talent, build, inspire, and retain an impactful team
Cultivate and model cross-functional leadership and ensure alignment of the team with other cross-functional teams (ex. Medical, Access, Diagnostics) to create a principled, ambitious, and collaborative business
Successfully connect with regional and global AZ Oncology counterparts to share, integrate insights, offer/seek feedback, and ensure overall alignment in the therapeutic area
Strategic Projects:
Active member of the Canadian Oncology Leadership Team (OLT), contributing to key initiatives and above-brand projects within the local market
A success criterion for this role is understanding cross-brand and tumour area dynamics that impact the commercialization of our AZ Oncology pipeline and proactively working with your peers to discover new ways of working
Essential Skills/Experience
Bachelors degree in business or life sciences. MBA/Ph.D. desired
Leadership experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry with accountability and a proven track record for delivering on business goals
Broad commercial experience with demonstrated success across various stages of the brand lifecycle, including pre-launch planning, launch execution, HTA validation, and long-term business planning
In-depth understanding of drug development and commercialization in Oncology
Solid grasp of ongoing paradigm changes and future trends in healthcare commercialization
Demonstrated ability to build teams and achieve goals by delivering through others
Proven experience and knowledge of a broad base of external partners and customers including patients, prescribers, payers, providers, and in/out license/alliance partners
P&L management experience and able to build a financial narrative
Experienced with key regulations in the field of pharmaceutical compliance and commercialization
An entrepreneurial spirit and strategic approach including innovation and critical thinking with performance-focused drive.
